BRITISH WATERWAYS
Towpath users have been feeling the benefits of a cleaner, more pleasant, Erewash Canal after volunteers and British Waterways (BW) staff joined forces to remove two tonnes of rubbish from the towpath and canal.
In just one day 12km of towpath was cleared as part of BWs’ Towpath Tidy campaign; an annual activity where local communities help look after their nearest canal or river.
The campaign is designed to provide a more attractive place for the many walkers, cyclists, anglers and boaters who use the canal each day, as well as benefiting the vast array of wildlife that can be found by the water. On 14 March, BW staff worked together with volunteers from the Erewash Canal Preservation and Development Association (ECPDA) to clear the canal, which runs from Langley Mill to Long Eaton

TINGRITH FISHERIESWychwood Carp Cup Well done everyone - Wychwood Tackle will be sending £150 worth of tackle to both of our winners. The competition finishes this month, so this weekend is your last chance to bag a biggun' and win some tackle. Orchid is producing amazingly well! This weekend has seen one Leigh catch just over 300lb of carp over two nights using proactive boilies and trout pellet in PVA bags. Largest fish 18lb 4oz mirror average stamp around 12lb. To add to that his fellow angler, Simon, caught a further 100lb plus using similar methods. And that was just two people! Cherry is producing lovely carp upto 20lb alot around the 5-10lb mark. Following the 116lb haul in the Browning Team Challenge this lake has suddenly come into its own! Fringe is still producing loads of crucians and brown goldfish even though the water is very low. Toby caught yet another 11lb carp from here - this lad will go far!Latest Big Fish NewsIn June one of the Tingrith Cat Fish was caught for the first time!Gary Mcguire, a 39 year old electrician from Luton, caught the 46lb Wels Cat fish on his first visit to Tingrith Orchid Lake. He was fishing for carp on a Zebco Cool carp rod and Zebco Cool RC355 reel using 15lb main line, size 8 barbless hook and 15 red maggots on a maggot ring using aTFG pop-up hair rig! Not only was this the first time Gary has fished Orchid Lake, it was his second ever time at Tingrith and his first ever cat fish. Having played the fish for about 25 minutes he was wondering what it was as the swirl seemed to be along way from the hook! Gary has fished most of his life, having had a break form it to play football, his is now well and truely hooked on fishing again in a big way. |

WHITE ACRES Well that’s it, White Acres has officially closed for the season What a season it has been, I have hardly had time to catch my breath let alone bag any big catches for myself. This has been one of our busiest seasons to date with the park fully booked virtually from May through to September and then we were in to our festivals so it feels like I have not had a break for ages, roll on February when it is my annual trip to Vegas. After a hectic year we are now starting our winter work and are out on the lakes getting our hands dirty, we have an extensive maintenance programme we have to carry out before the park opens next year, on of our jobs we have been concentrating in is re-peg numbering all of the lakes as some people think it is a good idea to remove the numbers or take them home as souvenirs!! I have really enjoyed my year here on park, all of our festivals have been sell-outs and have been hugely successful and went with out any hitches – Our News-Reel mini mag will be out in December with all our festival write ups and winners information or you can catch up with all the latest details on the Match Focus pages on the web. Our regular residents matches have been running throughout the year and we have seen the Rover top 200 plus on a couple of occasions I wouldn’t like to estimate the amount of fish the boys have weighed in throughout the year it would be mind blowing!! |

WOODLAND LAKES My favorite lake at the moment Adam. Best method for me is groundbait feeder with bronze maggots sandwiched in feeder. Cast to middle of lake. 12" tail to size 12 or 14 hook with worm and bronze maggot or half inch cube of luncheon meat works as well. Get plenty of bait in cos once they start its a fish a chuck! Strong line 8lb straight through( I kept getting snapped on 6lb so changed to 8 last time I went).I use green Swimstim groundbait with a tin of Frenzied Hemp mixed in and some small Swimstim pellets. Keep hold of your rod cos mine went for a swim when I reached for my cup of coffee and an angry carp took my bait |
