Dents of Hilgay actively encourage youngsters to take up fishing. The lakes are open every day, but night fishing is not allowed. Day tickets are £6, with concessions available for anybody with a concessionary fishing license.............................................................................................................................................The LakesThere are five lakes, all landscaped with extensive tree planting and banks well established with reeds, rushes and plenty of vegetation harbouring wildlife and birds including kingfishers. Farm Shop Lake is eight acres with 30 pegs. Dug back in 1948 it is surrounded by reeds and with a reedbed island – you will hardly see another angler. Prolific for crucians to 3 lb and tench to 8 lb, there are numbers of roach and rudd to 2 lb-plus and a handful of carp to just over 30 lb, although not easily caught.Kingfisher Pond is quarter of an acre with 11 pegs, a mixed fishery with good nets of crucians, tench, chub, barbel and perch plus carp over 20 lb. Best methods are pellet or corn under your feet. The three West Fen Lakes are found further down the Fen Road. Willows has one island and has 38 pegs with carp nudging 30 lb, and a good stock of double-figure fish falling to boilies. Method feeder with pellet to the island also scores well for big bags of 5-10 lb fish. There’s a good head of silver fish with 60 lb nets of roach and rudd and good winter fishing on the waggler and feeder. Two Island Lake has 30 pegs and also had a large stock of carp 5-10 lb for real carp hauling action, whether on pole, floating pole or Method feeder. Chub run to 6 lb plus and barbel to 8 lb.Spinney Lake has 23 pegs and a large stock of smaller carp and F1s making it a great year round venue. Nets to near 200 lb have been recorded with margin fishing always productive on pellet, corn and meat.
